Saalbach
Saalbach is set in the province of Salzburg. It is an excellent ski resort with an attractive village combined with a lively, authentic mountain atmosphere.
This vast ski area is known for its fantastic range of pistes and modern lift system, which connect Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang. The resort has lots of off-piste sites through the trees and marked runs for all levels, although beginners and intermediates are taken care of the most. Besides skiing and boarding the resort offers tobogganing, guided snowshoe tours at the end of the Glemm Valley, romantic sleigh rides, ice skating, Austrian curling, archery and paragliding. There is also piste basher driving (this is where you get to drive a snow groomer or ride as a passenger), quad and ice-karts (just like go-karts but on ice). Saalbach Hinterglemm also offers 22 cleared winter walking paths which total 140km.
The resort provides all the necessary amenities such as ATMs, banks, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, more than 30 pubs and bars and 9 discos. Saalbach - Hinterglemm is renowned for its après ski scene. There are variety of bars and restaurants catering to every taste and budget. Spielberghaus, located at the top of a toboggan run, and Wallner are good for food while Bobby's Kegelbar and Kings are two of the more popular bars. There are live music venues and DJs keeping the party lively till the early morning hours.
The Saalbach - Hinterglemm resort has lots of accommodation options from glitzy luxury hotels to more budget conscious lodgings. The Pension Enzian hotel and the Pension Penhab B&B both come highly recommended. The closest airport is Salzburg 90 minutes away, followed by Munich at 3 hours. Saalbach - Hinterglemm has something for everyone, but is ideally suited to group ski trips with mixed ability skiers who are looking for a lively and social nightlife.
