L’espace Killy is made up of the two skiing resorts of Val d’Isere and Tignes. With a vast and varied terrain and slopes facing in all directions the area caters to skiers and snowboarders of all levels and tastes. The lift system has been well conceived and is quite modern, while the great snow record is augmented with a large network of snow making canons. The season lasts from late November through to the month of May.
The commune of Val d'Isère lies in the Tarentaise Valley part of the southeastern area of the Rhône-Alpes region. It sits next to the border of the Vanoise National Park at an altitude of 1850m. With long and meandering streets, a Baroque church and its traditional old buildings the Val d’Isere village itself has managed to retain its charm. The newer area of La Daille offers many self-catering apartments and is just a 15 minute walk from the centre of town with buses also available.
The combined area boasts 300km of skiing possibilities with 155 pistes making the choice of marked and off-piste sites almost unlimited. Besides skiing and snowboarding the other activities in the area include skidoo, bowling, parapenting and snowshoeing.
The après ski scene at Val d'Isère is legendary with a huge number of bars, restaurants and clubs in the centre of town. Every taste is catered for with the Moris Bar offering live music, The Pacific known for sports and Petit Danois offering a pool table. Other amenities such as a health spa, a gym, supermarket and a tourist office are on offer. Val d'Isère is a world class resort with a long winter season of guaranteed snow cover and with the Pissaillas glacier close by, summer skiing is also on offer. Its nearest airports are within a few hours drive with Chambery at just over two and a half hours followed by Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon at four.
