A traditional Savoyard resort located between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, Morzine is a charming and lively town surrounded by forests and mountains. The first cable-car, the Plenly, was installed in the year 1934 and since then the resort has continued to expand and modernize. It is now part of the Portes du Soleil region, known as one of the world's major ski centres, giving Morzine visitors access to over 650km of ski slopes.
Morzine encompasses a vast territory, offering plenty of runs for all levels, with lots of varied terrain to be experienced. The green runs are nice and gentle and situated close to the village. For intermediates the resort has an abundance of reds and blues, through tree-lined areas with a few big bowls on offer. Advanced skiers are not left out, with some challenging black runs and great off-piste opportunities.
There are lots of other activities to try out, such as under-ice scuba diving, paragliding, ice skating, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, hot air ballooning and helicopter rides. The health and relaxation options include, yoga, Pilates, massage, spa treatments and a gym. The resort also offers some choices for the handicapped with both accommodation and activities such as handi-skiing.
There is a wide choice of apartments and chalets available, with 7 guest houses, 49 hotels and 4 apartment complexes offering various on-site amenities. Although the resort has a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere there is no shortage of bars and restaurants to try out. The aprés ski scene starts with drinks and snacks at bars on the slopes, followed by lively pubs in the villages such as Les Crete des Zorre. Things usually finish up in the discos at the Le Pleney end of the resort. The closest airport is Geneva at just one hour and fifteen minutes away, making Morzine the ideal choice for long weekend breaks for families, groups and couples.
