Saint Sorlin d'Arves sits at the foot of the Étendard glacier in a typical mountain setting. Situated at an altitude of between 1550m and 1700m, it is the highest village on the Col de la Croix de Fer. St. Sorlin is made up of fourteen small villages which all display the traditional Savoyard atmosphere. Combined, the ski resorts of St Jean d'Arves, La Toussuire and Le Corbier make up the Les Sybelles region, which is considered one of the larger ski resorts in France.
Starting at 1550 metres with the highest lifts at an altitude of 2620m there is a winter season till the end of April. The combined Les Sybelles region offers a ski area of 300km of piste with a total of 93 runs with plenty of slopes for all levels. St. Sorlin itself has a decent number of greens, blues, reds and cross country ski trails, however it offers just 2 black runs. Beginners and intermediates have the most choice with a wide and varied terrain full of tree lined blue and red runs. For the more advanced skier there is ample off-piste potential above the tree-line and a few challenging black runs to be found further afield. There are two snow parks, a longest lift run of 7km and also many ski and chair lifts. Added with the other activities available in the area including skidoo, snowshoeing and parapenting, Saint Sorlin d'Arves is a fantastic resort for all ages.
St. Sorlin offers a good supply of accommodation with many furnished apartments, chalets, and hotels available. The nightlife is low key but there are a couple of good après ski places to hang out such as L'Extreme and L'Avalanche. Both Lyon and Turin airports are within a roughly three hour drive away.
