The ski resort La Plagne situated in the alpine valley of Tarentaise in the Northern Alps is truly a world class destination. With a great mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain and a wide selection of aprés ski activities for all members of the family. La Plagne boasts ten villages each with their own unique setting from idyllic old world charm to more contemporary surroundings. It has a wide variety of lodging options. With everything from hostels and chalets to 5 star hotels, La plagne fits everyone’s price range and needs.
The area has a wonderfully varied territory. It has 225km of pistes many of which are suited to families and intermediates. But there is also a wealth of off-piste sites for the more sophisticated and adventurous skier. Great snow cover is almost assured because of its high altitude facing the Mont Blanc and Beaufortain ranges. It has 425km of ski runs and a variety of snow parks for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Other activities include cross country skiing, bobsleighing and husky sledding, and for family fun there is ice skating and tabogganing. La Plagne also offers a range of activities including handiski for the disabled. For those who wish to take a break from the slopes to enjoy the wonderful landscape from above there are helicopter tours, and paragliding is available. All activities and accommodations are easily accessible through a comprehensive lift system and free shuttle buses.
There are a host of restaurants and bars conveniently placed throughout the resort. Most restaurants offer a traditional Savoyard menu with an abundance of regional specialities such as fondue, raclette and pierrade. The bar scene varies with small quaint local hangouts to busy crowded bars with live music and DJs. Many will stay open till the wee hours of the morning for the nocturnal among you.
