Baratier
Created up in 1935, Les Orres has a great assortment of demanding terrain with snow sure altitudes ranging from 1650m to 2770m. It is a large resort with a southern location so it gets plenty of sunshine throughout the winter season.
There is access to 63km of downhill skiing, with 29 individual pistes with a total length of 34 kilometers above 2500m. Skiing and snowboarding is assured from December through to April. The area is served by 23 lifts including 8 chair lifts and 15 surface lifts. With 40km of cross country ski trails and an incredible 1200m of vertical descent and a terrain park with rails and jumps, the resort has something for both skiers and snowboarders alike. However the area is best suited for the beginner and intermediate levels with just 3 black runs for advanced skiers. There are plenty of off-piste opportunities above Les Orres in the Grand Vallon and Petit Vallon areas. A few of the pistes at Les Orres are covered by man-made snow with 103 snow making canons on site.
For the aprés ski there are eighteen restaurants and more than a dozen bars with Les Caves the only nightclub in town. For activities off the slopes there is a mini-bowling alley Le Bowlingo or the L'Ubac Cinema which shows two different movies a day. There are also a few outdoor swimming pools and an ice rink, so plenty on offer for a family holiday. Accommodation in Les Orres is mixed, with self-catering chalets, apartments and 3 star hotels, with many facilities offering doorstep skiing. Grenoble is the closest airport with a 2.5 hours drive time with the nearest train station at Embrun.
